Sheri and Gary have little time together these days. Gary works out of the country, and hasn’t been back to Canada for many months! So, during his short visit, we got together for a fun and lovely engagement session. This was my first time meeting these two and while they claimed frazzled nerves, they were both wonderful in front of the camera. As usual, I could easily have kept shooting and shooting!
Congratulations you guys on your destination wedding next year. You were a true pleasure to photograph!

I know I’m a bit late in this review, but better late than never, right? It’s been busy I guess, and that’s a good thing.
Speaking of busy, 2009 was crazy. Too crazy. And while it was Ruby joon’s premiere year, and starting a business is crazy-making for sure, it is my vow this year to get a better sense of balance – of mixing life with business to a point where I’m not spending so much time in front of the computer, but getting out and doing more of the things I love. Hiking, visiting with friends, going on weekend retreats, spending time with family, exploring the island, taking classes (rowing!) and spending more time in the garden, which was sorely neglected last year.
2009 brought beginnings and endings, sad surprises and lovely surprises. Reconnections and disconnections. Kind of sounds like life, huh? I believe that part of our paths are set out for us. We have such a say in how we handle that rollout, though. In our attitudes and our actions. And it can be a challenge at times. But we learn, and we move on and that is what life is all about. These are the things I think about when reflecting on time passed.
To recap 2009 in photos brings you all sorts – while Michelle and I did commercial work at the beginning, I have decided that commercial work stays with my own name over at www.rwellmanphotography.com. Ruby joon will concentrate on weddings, couples and specialty fashion portraiture. Family stuff can also be found at www.rwellmanphotography.com/blog.
So, enjoy! This is a conglomeration of wedding and engagement photography. In random order; just some of my favorites.
Be sure to stick around …. lots of stuff happening in 2010, too!

Winter weddings are so different. And so cool. They’re sparkly and cold and all lit up. And they’re dark and grainy and warm as well.
And this one was so…not traditional per se, but there were so many meaningful traditional elements to it. Grandma’s ring, GREAT Grandma’s necklace, the most special Nathan (with a killer artistic streak…he drew the birds you see below!) and the loveliest Elise and a room full of family and friends.
Nathan and Elise exchanged vows in front of a giant Christmas tree at the fabulous Laurel Point Inn amongst candles and lights. They hung out with their wedding party and cocktails prior to the ceremony, celebrating the day and getting ready for the first of their very biggest celebrations.
Nathan and Elise – it was an absolute pleasure to get to know you and capture your day! You are truly two of the most gifted, easygoing and down-to-earth people anyone could have the pleasure to meet! All the very best!
Special thanks to:
Huff and Puff - for the lovely decor
Bella Fiore – for their always fantastic floral arrangements
Michelle – who joined me to shoot this wedding, which as usual, was a blast – some of her photos are here.
Here is just a taste of their fabulous day…

It feels strange to create a post where I don’t actually show you the photos. But it’s for good reason. A lovely lady hired me to take some surprise ‘boudoir’ photos for her. We went outside, and utilized the amazing fall colors. She let go of inhibitions and modestly brought her own self. Her own style. She wore jeans and bare feet. She did her hair. She had her make up done. She brought a stylist friend and drank wine, and made the whole thing a special event. And then together, we created something special, for a someone special.
This is a good thing to do for yourself. It reminds you that you’re beautiful and unique. And as an artist, this is something that I love to do. To bring that out in you. To capture you in this time and space.
Normally, here is where I would say: enjoy the photos! Well, I can’t leave you with nothing. So, here is something. xo

In between rainy days, I was lucky enough to capture my favorite sun flare during Sherrie and Kevin’s engagement session. These two aren’t getting married until next summer, but why wouldn’t someone take advantage of this gorgeous season?
Sherrie and Kevin are lighthearted, to say the least. They’re not worried about getting dirty, or finding leaves in their hair. They are fun and easy and were an absolute pleasure to photograph.
And oh my…check out those Fluevogs! Love ‘em!
Thank you to my special friend Tara for helping me out during this shoot!
